Welcome to the Town Manager's Office!
Welcome to the Town of Winchester and City of Winsted, Connecticut. We are a picturesque community that provides the best of both worlds at the foothills of the Berkshires. We have a downtown that beckons shopping and dining, all available through a leisurely walk. We are home to Highland Lake, one of the largest lakes in Connecticut, and a great summer respite. With walking paths and woodlands, Winsted is a great area for outdoor family activities such as hiking and biking, and for the winter, it is close to major ski areas. We are very business friendly with full service water and sewer and numerous ways to assist your business in order for it to grow and prosper. We are served by Connecticut Rt 8, which is a direct connection to the rest of Connecticut and beyond. We are far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city for you to enjoy the peacefulness of our small community, but close enough to all of life's modern conveniences. About the Town Manager's Position
The Town of Winchester has what's called a "Council-Manager" form of government, where the Town Manager is the Town's non-partisan appointed/hired Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Selectmen acts as the Town's legislative body, with the power to appoint and remove the Town Manager. The Town Manager supervises the Town's department directors and other employees within the Town Manager's Office and generally manages the day-to-day operations of the town, implementing policies that are adopted by the Board of Selectmen.
