Registration for the Town of Winchester's Citizens' Academy is now open for the fall session! Here’s your chance to learn more about the operation of Town of Winchester departments in an interactive, fun way. The nine-week Citizen’s Academy begins on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023 in the Hicks Room on the second floor of Town Hall from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will then continue to meet on Wednesday evenings through November 8th at various town facilities including the Senior Center, Water Treatment Plant, Public Works Garage, and more. Participants will go behind the scenes and see the inner workings of our police department, see the latest firefighting equipment, ancient land records in the Town Clerk’s Office vault, see what it is like to be in a snow plow truck, tour the town, and meet and get to know a variety of town staff members. This dynamic program will uncover facts about Winchester's operations that you never knew! Click here to register now!
Program Schedule
The program is a total of nine weeks in length, with the first eight weekly sessions being educational in nature and the final session being a short ceremony to commemorate the successful completion of the academy session by its participants. The academy will meet on Wednesdays from 7-9pm between September 13th and November 8th, 2023. Each week the academy will meet to cover different programs and departments, and the final ceremony will be held on November 8th.
Enrollees are expected to attend all sessions and must attend at least seven out of eight (7 out of 8) of the informational sessions between September 13th and November 1st in order to be considered a "Citizens' Academy Graduate" and receive a certificate at the end of the program.
Registration
The program is offered free-of-charge, and anyone 18 years or older living or working in Winchester is welcome to sign-up (residents will be given priority in the event there are more registrations than there are seats available). Click here to register now!
