Winsted Water Works has announced that they will be conducting a Water Main Rehabilitation Project in the area of South Main Street beginning August 27, 2018. This project is expected to be completed by late November, 2018. Please anticipate heavier than usual traffic from Park Place to the Torringford/Old New Hartford Road intersection.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Although the existing cast iron pipes are structurally sound, they were installed prior to the availability of cement-lined pipes thus allowing for mineral deposit accumulation on the interior wall of the pipe. This accumulation greatly reduces the pipes capacity and can deteriorate water quality. Rather than replacing the existing pipe, the Town has contracted Michels out of Brownsville, Wisconsin to scour the pipes and line them with a protective coating to prevent mineral deposit accumulation. The pipe lining method is less disruptive and less expensive than traditional open trench methods.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION
The contractor will set up temporary above-ground bypass piping to provide customers with water service while the existing main is out of service. There will be a brief lapse in water service to customers in the immediate area of the project while their services are connected to the temporary bypass and again at the end of the project when they are reconnected to the rehabilitated main.
