Town of Winchester Awarded $612,500 State Local Bridge Program Grant to Replace Newfield Road Bridge Over Fox Brook

July 29, 2026, WINCHESTER, CT – The Town of Winchester has been awarded a $612,500 State Local Bridge Program grant to support the reconstruction of Bridge No. 162008 on Newfield Road over Fox Brook. The funding, announced today by Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto, reflects the State's continued investment in improving local bridge infrastructure.

 

The grant will fund 50 percent of the eligible costs for the Newfield Road bridge replacement, with the Town's local match coming from the voter-approved 2022 Infrastructure Bond. While the Town had originally planned to use approximately $2.5 million in bond funds to reconstruct the bridge and repave Newfield Road, this state investment allows those local dollars to go significantly further by freeing up funding for additional infrastructure projects and creating new opportunities to leverage future state and federal grants.

This funding allows us to advance an important project while preserving local resources for future infrastructure improvements."

 

The Newfield Road bridge and roadway improvements remain in the early engineering and design phase. The Town will share a more detailed project schedule and construction timeline for all Newfield Road improvements as the design is finalized and the project continues to advance.
