Registrar of Voters Issues Guidance for 2018 Election Day - Tuesday, November 6, 2018 - 6AM to 8PM

The Town of Winchester Registrar of Voters office reminds residents that Election Day is Tuesday, November 6, 2018.  Polls are open 6:00AM through 8:00PM at Pearson School located at 2 Wetmore Avenue, Winsted. 

 

 

The following are some guidelines regarding voter registration:

Online Voter Registration Deadline:  Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 11:59PM

Deadline for Mailed Voter Registration:  Must be Postmarked by Tuesday, October 30, 2018

In-Person Voter Registration Deadline:  Tuesday, October 30, 2018  

Limited Registration Session Last Weekday Before Election - Limited Session (Available to those seeking to vote in election whose qualifications as to age, citizenship or residence was attained since October 30th):  Monday, November 5, 2018 from 9:00AM to 5:00PM

Election Day Registration:  Registrar(s) of Voters shall be available at their office located at Town Hall, 338 Main Street, 2nd Floor for completing and processing Election Day Registration applications.  Individuals may register and vote in person on Election Day if they meet the eligibility requirements for voting in this state and are (1) not already an elector or (2) registered in one municipality but want to change their registration because they currently reside in another municipality.  By law, a person is eligible to register and vote if they are (1) a U.S. citizen, (2) age 18 or older, and (3) a bona fide resident of the municipality in which they apply for admission as an elector.  With Election Day Registration, voter registration and actual voting must occur by 8:00PM.

Absentee Ballots are currently available but must be received by the Town Clerk by the close of polls (8:00PM) on Election Day or will not be counted.  Please click here for more information regarding Absentee Voting.

The following are referendum questions included on the ballot this Election Day.

1.       Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to ensure (1) that all moneys contained in the Special Transportation Fund be used solely for transportation purposes, including the payment of debts of the state incurred for transportation purposes, and (2) that sources of funds deposited in the Special Transportation Fund be deposited in said fund so long as such sources are authorized by statute to be collected or received by the state?

2.       Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to require (1) a public hearing and the enactment of legislation limited in subject matter to the transfer, sale or disposition of state-owned or state-controlled real property or interests in real property in order for the General Assembly to require a state agency to sell, transfer or dispose of any real property or interest in real property that is under the custody or control of the agency, and (2) if such property is under the custody or control of the Department of Agriculture or the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, that such enactment of legislation be passed by a two-thirds vote of the total membership of each house of the General Assembly?

3.      Shall Section 303 be amended to eliminate the requirement of publishing the entire text and eliminate the requirement for newspaper publication, instead allowing the publication on the Town’s website and any other place chosen by the Board of Selectmen?

4.    Shall Sections 911,912,1504 and 1107 be amended to eliminate the Requirement for newspaper publication, instead allowing the Publication on the Town’s website and any other place chosen By the Board of Selectmen?
