The Recreation Department continues to sponsor fun events here in town. This spring, they are sponsoring "YOU'VE BEEN EGGED!", an alternative Easter egg hunt this year.
Recreation Board members will be distributing supplies for the event on Thursday, April 1st between 4PM and 6PM at the Rowley Street Playground.
The alternative egg hunt involves participants hiding five easter eggs in the yard of another participating neighbor, family, or friend. A note communicating “YOU’VE BEEN EGGED” will be left on the front step or taped to the front door (along with extra copies so children can play and pass the fun forward). Kids will then ring the doorbell and run! The egged children will then hunt for the hidden eggs after which they will then “egg” their friends’ houses just like theirs had been done, providing everyone the chance to participate while also maintaining social distancing during the pandemic.
Additionally, the Recreation Department is sponsoring GIRLS ON THE RUN, a program for girls in Grades 4 to 6. The group of runners will meet at the Rowley Street Playground on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30PM to 5PM, beginning on April 5th and continuing through June 5th. For more information, please email Jennifer.helrfich@girlsontherun.org.
A Spring Outdoor Men’s Basketball League is also being sponsored. The season begins April 20th. A Coaches Meeting is scheduled for April 1st at 7PM at Rowley Street Playground Building. The league fee of $500 is due that night. Each team of 10 (max) will play games to be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Rowley Basketball Court. Participants should be age 18+. It will include an 8-week regular season plus single elimination playoffs. Start times are 6:30PM, 7:30PM, and 8:30PM (Tuesdays) and 7PM and 8PM (Thursdays). Please click here for more information.
Recreation Director Tanya Risucci reminds families that it is that time of year to register their younger ones, aged 5 to 14, for summer camp. The Summer Camp program runs from 7:30AM to 3:30PM. Campers are registered by the week with the cost set at $100 per week for residents and $115 per week for non-residents. Discounts are provided for multiple siblings in a family. Registrations should be completed online by following this link.
Each day at Winsted’s Summer Camp is filled with new games and activities with many planned guests and shows this year as well as some field trips in town. Winchester is fortunate to have a wonderful group of counselors that are ready to guide children through a memorable 2021 summer.
