The Highland Lake Watershed Association and the Northwestern Connecticut Community college Environmental Science/Natural Resources Program are co-sponsoring an Open Space Symposium on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 10:00AM. The event will be held in Founders Hall Auditorium, and is free and open to the public. The Symposium will update attendees on the current status of open space programs as well as provide a discussion on the importance of open space, locally and in New England. The main speaker will be William G. Labich, a Senior Conservationist at the Highstead Foundation. The Highstead Foundation, located in Redding, Connecticut, is dedicated to advancing the conservation of wild lands and woodlands through collaboration with regional conservation partners throughout New England and eastern New York.
After Mr. Labich’s presentation, a panel will discuss current activities underway by the efforts of local land trusts as well as other conservation programs involved with open space. The panel will consist of members of local land trusts as well as Tara Jo Holmberg, Professor in Environmental Science and Biology at NCCC. Discussion will follow the panel presentations.
