Town of Winchester Launches Main Street Waste Receptacle Adoption Program
New initiative invites local businesses to help keep downtown Winsted clean, welcoming, and beautiful
WINSTED, CT — The Town of Winchester is proud to announce the launch of the Main Street Waste Receptacle Adoption Program, a new community partnership initiative designed to enhance the cleanliness and appearance of downtown Winsted while promoting local business involvement and civic pride. The program invites local businesses and organizations to “adopt” a downtown trash receptacle by helping maintain it throughout the year. Participating businesses will receive recognition through signage displayed directly on the receptacle as well as acknowledgment from the Town for their contribution to the community.
“Our downtown is the heart of Winchester and keeping it clean and attractive is something we can all take pride in,” said Town Manager Paul Harrington. “This program creates a simple but meaningful opportunity for local businesses to partner with the Town in maintaining a vibrant and welcoming Main Street.” The commercial-grade receptacles are designed for year-round outdoor use and feature durable, weather-resistant construction. Businesses participating in the program will help monitor the receptacle, empty it as needed, and replace liners to ensure the area remains clean and inviting for residents and visitors alike.
The program offers several community benefits, including: • Supporting a cleaner, litter-free downtown • Encouraging community pride and engagement • Providing positive visibility for participating businesses • Strengthening partnerships between the Town and local businesses
The Town believes the initiative will contribute to ongoing efforts to beautify downtown Winsted and foster a stronger sense of shared responsibility within the community.
