Residents are being advised to take extra precautions as temperatures heat up this week. Please plan to stay hydrated and avoid becoming overheated as humidity is expected to rise along with excessive temperatures. The following locations have been designated as cooling centers for Wednesday, August 11th and Thursday, August 12th:
- Winschester Town Hall located at 338 Main Street, 2nd Floor - Hicks Room (Wednesday 8AM - 4PM, Thursday 8AM - 6PM)
- Blanche McCarthy Senior Center (Seniors Only, please) located at 80 Holabird Avenue (Wednesday and Thursday 8AM - 3PM)
- Beardsley & Memorial Library located at 40 Munro Place (Wednesday 10AM - 6PM, Thursday 10AM - 8PM) *Please note that while the Library offers shelter from the sun, it does not have an air conditioning system.
Additionally, please note that the following local businesses have graciously volunteered to function as cooling centers during their normal business hours:
Dunkin' at 760 Main Street and 3 Main Street
Winsted News (The Cigar Store) at 418 Main Street
Kent Pizza at 536 Main Street
McDonald’s Restaurant at 15 South Main Street
McGrane’s on the Green Park Place West
Please note that masks are required in Town Hall and the Senior Center regardless of vaccination status.
