Based on the weather forecast, the Governor has approved activation of the cold weather protocol from noon on Saturday December 21 to noon on Tuesday December 24. The forecast for areas of CT over the weekend is suggesting that temperatures may be dangerously low, especially overnight on Saturday and Sunday. The current protocol is attached, and a more detailed forecast is below.
An artic airmass is forecast to move across our area this weekend along with some light snow Friday evening thru the day on Saturday. Friday is forecast to be cold with highs around freezing and lows in the mid 20’s Friday night. High temperatures are forecast to be around freezing again on Saturday but fall quickly Saturday evening as artic air moves into the region with NW winds gusting to 30 MPH at times. The coldest period is forecast to occur from Saturday Night until Tuesday morning. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the single digits Saturday night with wind chills between -10 F (NW Hills) and +5 F (Coast) and NW winds gusting to 25 MPH at times. Highs on Sunday are forecast to only reach around 20 F with wind chills around +10 F during the day and NW winds gusting to 25 MPH at times. Sunday night is forecast to be very cold with lows in the single digits again and wind chills again between -10 F and +5 F with north winds around 10 MPH. The winds are forecast to subside on Monday with high temperatures in the mid 20’s. Lows are forecast to be in the teens Monday Night with highs on Tuesday rebounding to around freezing.
