The Town of Winchester Department of Public Works has scheduled Chip Sealing as part of their road improvements.   There will be a temporary parking ban issued while the work is underway from 6AM to 6PM on Monday, August 26, 2019 and Tuesday, August 27, 2019.  Please note the schedule is subject to change as it is weather dependent.

The following roads are scheduled for chip sealing:

  • Nanni Drive
  • Mt View Terrace
  • Crown Street
  • Groppo Drive
  • International Way
  • Grantville Rd (Preston to Danbury Qtr)
  • Maloney Court
  • Glendale Avenue
  • Spruce Street
  • Cedar Road
  • Ash Street
  • Colony Drive (Holabird Ave to Maloney Court)
  • Willow Street (Rowley Street to Case Avenue)

With Chip Sealing, a thin film of heated asphalt liquid is sprayed on the road surface, followed by the placement of small aggregates (“chips”).  The chips are then compacted to orient the chips for maximum adherence to the asphalt, and excess stone is swept from the surface.  It helps to prevent deterioration of the asphalt surface from the effects of aging and oxidation due to water and sun.  As a result, Chip Sealing functions to extend the time between asphalt overlays, resulting in lower costs over the long term.
