Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Ned Lamont signed an executive order allowing all registered voters in Connecticut to vote by absentee ballot in the August 11, 2020 Presidential Preference Primaries. Secretary of the State Denise Merrill mailed every registered Democrat and Republican in the State an application that they will need to fill out and return in order to obtain an absentee ballot. That application, which was sent via U.S. Postal Service, included a postage paid return envelope. Beginning July 21, 2020, all voters who requested an absentee ballot will receive their ballots in the mail, which will also include a postage paid return envelope.
For those voters who would like to deliver their absentee ballot in person, without close personal contact, the Town of Winchester will have a secure ballot drop box located in the front of Town Hall, 338 Main Street. All absentees will need to be received by 8:00 P.M. on the day of the Primary to be counted. Voters who would still like to appear in person to cast their vote on August 11, our polling location at Pearson School, 2 Wetmore Avenue will remain open from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. To ensure a safe and secure environment, all will be required to wear a mask before entering the building and follow the proper social distancing signs.
