Over the past 2+ years, the Town has been busy working with the vendor General Code to codify the Town’s ordinances and regulations and get them posted online in a searchable format. This process has included General Code’s legal team, the Town Attorney, the Town Manager, members of the Board of Selectmen, and members of the Town’s staff reviewing the ordinances for inconsistencies and outdated information and making corrections in those areas.
We are now at a point in this process where the corrections have been made, and a draft of the codified ordinances is available for the public’s review. This codified set of ordinances and regulations have been posted on the Town’s website for public viewing and consideration.
The next step in the process is for the Board of Selectmen to review these updated and codified ordinances and vote on whether or not they should be adopted. Per the Charter, conversation about these prospective ordinances must be placed on the Board of Selectmen’s agenda three times; at the end of the third session, the Board may vote to adopt such amended ordinances. Per our Town Attorney, a single motion may be made to adopt all amended ordinances as presented. Members of the Board of Selectmen have recommended that these ordinances be posted for at least a full month before that three-meeting process begins to allow the public to widely review the corrected, codified ordinances. Thus, we expect the first of those three meetings will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023; the second will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023; and the third and final meeting will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023.
Zoning regulations and Inland Wetland regulations will be reviewed and adopted by the Planning & Zoning Commission and by the Inland Wetlands Commission respectively, not by the Board of Selectmen. These codified regulations can still be found by following the link below.
