The Department of Public Works has announced their pavement resurfacing project scheduled to begin June 29, 2018. This paving project is expected to be completed by the end of July.
The July project will entail Hot In-Place Asphalt Recycling (HIPAR). HIPAR is a treatment used on roads that can benefit from more than preventative maintenance but are not necessarily ready for expensive overlays. HIPAR is a cost-effective way to improve the road surface as well as slow the normal deterioration caused by sunlight, traffic and plowing. This treatment is estimated to cost approximately about 50% as much as a thin overlay (re-pave). Additionally, as is the case with an application of a thin overlay, HIPAR will function to improve the driving surface and extend the service life of a road.
